Noah was a model I worked with years ago, and was a lovely and expressive subject. Digging through old photos I had shot of him, I rediscovered a beautiful one that I had always meant to use for something. It may one day become a larger painting, but for now it lives in this mixed-media sketch on collaged wood panel.

Carly Bodnar's most recent work addresses the policing of female-identified bodies – what they are allowed to do, desire, and look like. Drawing from diverse visual resources including cell-phone selfies, glossy fashion magazines, and digital color distortion, she creates traditional paintings that offer a glimpse into the experience of womanhood in a visually bombarded and digitally overloaded reality. Bodnar received her BA from Portland State University in Oregon and continues to maintain art connections on both the East and West coast, having shown work in Portland, Los Angeles, and New York City. She lives and works in New York's beautiful Hudson Valley.
