Alain Bashung, born Alain Claude Baschung (1947 - 2009), is a French singer-songwriter and actor.
After a difficult start to his career, he became an important figure in French chanson and rock from the early 1980s and influenced a large number of singers on the new French scene with hits such as Gaby oh Gaby (1980) and Vertige de l'amour (1981). Starting with his eighth album, Osez Joséphine (1991), he produced more songs with less commercial impact, which did not prevent them from receiving critical acclaim. He has released twelve studio albums and two posthumous ones will see the light of day.
He is, tied with Matthieu Chedid, the most award-winning singer at the Victoires de la Musique with thirteen victories throughout his career.
