‘Feeling Peachy,’ is part of series that plays on the clichés of traditional portraiture; whereby subjects would be photographed in heavily clad garments and jewels, holding exotic fruits and props to showcase their wealth. . A twenty-first-century take on what ‘portraiture’ is in the fast paced age of the instant, focusing on the female form in a way that subverts the typical male gaze. I’ve been increasingly interested in painting ‘crops’ of a portrait; such as a torso, ear, or hand, and leaving the rest of the portrait absent. I think doing this allows the viewer to create a more intimate dialogue with the painting, and more room to imagine what the rest of the portrait might look like beyond the constraints of the canvas.
