My father - Vladimir Shcherbak was born in 1947 in Moscow. After graduating from university in Saint Petersburg, he came to live in Bulgaria where he became a member of the Plovdiv Artist Group in 1978. At that time, members of the group were emblematic artists in the Bulgarian plastic art such as Joan Leviev, Hristo Stefanov, Dimitar Kirov, Georgi Bozhilov – Slona, etc. This artistic and creative circle reached its height in the 70s and Vladimir Shcherbak, quite naturally, became part of it. The following years were marked by extensive creative activity: numerous and memorable participation in the joint art exhibitions organized by the Union of Bulgarian Artists, participation in international exhibitions in Bulgaria, Spain, Greece, Turkey, Switzerland, Poland, Belgium, USA, Israel, etc. Shcherbak held more than 20 individual exhibitions in Plovdiv, Sofia, Düsseldorf, Luxembourg, and Karlovo. He won the Special Prize for painting in the 1st and the 2nd International Art Biennale in Malta. He held lectures to scenic artists at the Specialized High School of Art and in Dimitar Matevski High School in Plovdiv. He has been a member of the Union of Bulgarian Artists since 1989. In 1992-2003, he was successively elected a chairman and a deputy chairman of Philipopol Artist Community. Vladimir Shcherbak is among the most distinctive artists in Plovdiv Artist Group. His works gained popularity even before the 10th of November 1989, and have remained unmatched in style and technique ever since. Undoubtedly, Shcherbak's creative vigour has given an immense impulse to the development of Bulgarian figurative art. Meanwhile, Bulgaria had a great influence on the artist's creative evolution and it is no chance that critics call him "a Bulgarian artist born in Moscow".
