Raft of Medusa Painting

Born in Taiwan, grow up in the East and receive education in the West, Chia-Chen said: "I am a mixed hybrid organ on this planet." Living in the contemporary globalized world, cultures in various countries were hybrid among various. My identity is no longer only in single culture, but a new diverse hybrid one. My paintings emphasize how I perceive the world differently as a result traveling horizontally in time and space such as floating in the Third Sapce that Homi Bhabha (1990) mentioned. Intrigued by my floating identity in this theoretical space created in between locations, which blur my social, cultural, and political boundaries. Within these ten years, my work highlights the personal aspects of the new hybrid identity and memory that allows me to speak in the ‘third’ language.
