I've always been an observer, how I see and feel the life, has a lot to do with my art. As I find myself as an artist who thinks she doesn't have the right skills to write or talk, I tend to believe that it is important for me to have the courage to trust. Trust that the insights are shown in the work. To me, these insights are of more value than all the words in the world. And hopefully these images and visions are realized by others, on some subliminal level. Waiting for tomorrow will not make things better. Finding ourselves in each second of existence can remove us from the future and the past, for then we are present. Only in presence may one find peace. The economy is separate from ourselves. The world is separate from us. Only when we find ourselves, are we one with others, regardless of what they do. Recovery does not come tomorrow - it is in this moment with everything we do. In my opinion, you create change, when you make people think. When sharing my works, I want to achieve this, without being too provocative. Those who are ready to see, can see. Gupla Art is made with a mixed technique, using recycled materials. The works of art are three dimensional, situated in the twilight zone of art and design. Tarja Saikkonen started to design her Gupla Artframes - series created in 2005 - when she realized that she had found natural means to express herself, via art. Finally this realization allowed her to make her own way of art. In her work Tarja Saikkonen wants to find and, at the same time, share insights without giving foothold to external constraints or dictations. The materials and techniques she has found have come up by experimenting bravely and discovering through her own doing and practice. In her works, the soul of old recycled materials and her controlled design are united. Under the playful first impression one can find a gloomier, pondering observer, with disciplined order and harmony. Tarja Saikkonen has experience in many fields of design. In addition to her artistic production she has, among other things, worked as a fashion designer in Finnish motion pictures and music videos, styled and made clothes for Finnish rock bands and artists. Tarja has always had a strong will to use her hands and create something new and original. The trademark Gupla, formed in 2001, has become a small world of her own, that goes beyond the thoughts, as its some creation to be felt or touched.
