I have always been drawn to the skeletal figure because of its complex, yet simple form. It consists of so many different pieces, yet they all fit together in perfect symmetry. Its beautifully constructed in such a way, that it seems like a blank canvas for the skin; that makes us all unique individuals. The skeleton unites everyone as a whole. Everyone consists of a skeletal frame, and it will forever remain one of the few things that we, as people, have in common. The skeleton is a universal icon, even though it may have different meanings to different cultures. In Mexican culture, creating art using skeletons as a subject is a major part in the celebration of Day of the Dead. Some believe the skeleton represents death; other may see it as a celebration of life. No matter what your beliefs are, the skeleton will always remain an icon that will always stand the test of time and forever be a permanent imprint of our lives.
