Born in the illustrious city of Arles, Doutreleau began painting the peaceful calm of the lagoon’s still reflections. He later transposed this inspiration into his work of uprights New York and Venice uprights, the bustling life of the Paris he lived, the limitless horizons of Deauville’s beaches and the thundering waves of Rio de Janeiro… In 1968, following the Futurists ideology, he went on capturing speed and the trace left by motion in space. Mechanical objects (planes, trains and automobiles) and sports (football, ski, golf, rugby, baseball, horse races…) are as many subjects he explored from every angle, leading him to master the complexity of the walking Man or the running child… On a constant quest to hold the rush of speed Doutreleau now delivers to us the instant motion of light and wind. “This is just an excuse to portrait the drama of life behind the modesty of dreams… Artwork must deliver emotions, everything else is just literature”, says Doutreleau.
