"The Blind Leporine," like much of my work, utilizes an animal to convey concepts of human frailty. In this instance, the subject is blind, it's eyes no longer functioning, but still able to produce tears, it is able to grieve and lament it's condition. I often use rabbits because of their naturally gangly, fragile, and vulnerable nature. This strikes a chord with our own sense of weakness and impermanence.

Jesse Berlin, MFA Tucson, AZ 1981- Jesse Berlin has been an avid sculptor from early childhood. He received a Bachelor's degree in Fine Arts from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago and an MFA in Sculpture from Southern Illinois University in Carbondale where he specialized in highly detailed figurative sculpture. While at SAIC he worked at the International Museum of Surgical Science as the curator of the Anatomy in the Gallery exhibition, a constantly changing showcase of medically themed, contemporary artwork. Upon graduating from SAIC, Jesse was recruited into the Maxillofacial Prosthetic Technician training program at the Bronx Veterans Administration Medical Center in conjunction with Columbia Presbyterian Hospital in New York where he advanced his skills learning to make complex and highly realistic facial prosthetics. Jesse has exhibited in numerous prestigious galleries across the country and has received several awards for his work. Two of his pieces were featured in the 2013 Arizona Biennial and in 2014 was featured in a two-page spread in Direct Art magazine. He has also been a regular contributor to the Conjoined series of exhibitions at Copro Gallery in Santa Monica. He has also exhibited in several national venues, including DeVos Place Convention Center, Limner Gallery, Sacred Machine, and Manifest Gallery. He now resides in his hometown of Tucson, Arizona where he continues to produce provocative and visually arresting works of art addressing the raw physical truth of the human condition.
