Brigitte Borkott-Gerlach

Brigitte Borkott-Gerlach is a Germany based artist who lives in Mainz and is known for her large scale paintings of musicians, fashion models and sports.

It all began with a small watercolor set and the first attempts at painting at the age of five. For most, those early scribbles and blotches in elementary school might not have led to much. However, for Brigitte Borkott-Gerlach, they ignited a passion for painting that remains alive even after 75 years. This passion led to intense academic studies of art and art history in Zurich and Mainz, complemented by stays in London, Paris, Florence, and Rome, to a teaching position as an art instructor at the Frauenlob High School in Mainz, to countless exhibitions both domestically and abroad — and to several hundred paintings. The range of her subjects is inexhaustible, though the native of Mainz often finds inspiration in the immediate surroundings of her chosen home of Wackernheim. What almost all of her works, despite their thematic variety, have in common: a keen eye for light moods and body language.
