American, B. 1946
Michigan native Bill Murcko paints summers in his studio on Mackinac Island and winters in his studio in the historic Scarab Club in Detroit, Michigan.
Virtually a self-taught realist painter, Murcko started painting at the age of 54. After his first one-man show, he decided to study with respected artists throughout the United States. His first was a special tutoring program with John Howard Sanden. From there he continued with classes under Nelson Shanks and Daniel Green, plus various summer workshops, with further study at the Florence Academy of Art and Les Cerqueux sous Passavant in France. He has had solo shows at the Moore Gallery in Detroit and Atlanta, and The Principle Gallery in Alexandria, VA, and has participated in many group shows in the United States, France and England. His work has been featured in American Art Collector, Artist Magazine, and Mackinac Living.
Murcko has won numerous awards, including three Annual Exhibition of Michigan Artists Gold Medal Awards and his paintings can be found in public and private collections throughout the United States.
