Charles Egornu

I am a painter working predominantly with oil paints on canvas, although I do use acrylic paints sometimes. My work is based around my passion and obsession on social realism. I incorporate a blend of traditional figurative art and contemporary abstract techniques in my work. My artistic influences are what I see or hear about in the everyday society.
I like the audience to interact with my work and because of this I build in many underlying narrative layers into each piece. For each individual viewer a specific narrative emerges. The viewer is an integral part of my paintings: a painting is incomplete until someone interacts with it.
Each piece is made up of an intricate combination of many materials and paints to build up a textured layer. I use a specialized technique to create the textures in my work. The reason for this is twofold: firstly, experience has taught me that people find these textures aesthetically appealing; secondly, the method I use for these textures is unique and is part of my on-going quest for originality.
