Being in a state of flow, transcends a feeling beyond time and space, every streak of color or kindled shape arise out of an intrinsic desire to draw and paint.
Inspired by nature and meditation the paintings of Charlot emerge responsively through different phases, exploring ‘worlds’ in which chaos and
harmony meet and must agree somehow. Therefore, this organic process has to playfully alternate between contingency and control, roughness and refinement and free-form gestures versus precise detailing.
The semi-abstract paintings contain hyper-surrealistic and/or figurative elements, unleashing infinite possibilities in perception. They are a combination of vivid contrasts, a myriad of intertwined levels, and exuberant layers ready to be freely explored and discovered.
Charlot Terhaar sive Droste (1976) graduated in 2002 from the Royal Academy of Art in The Hague, the Netherlands.
