STATEMENT

In my work I deal with the matter of appropriation of pictures
from books, records, packages of products ect, which I arrange with
a painting manner considering that one possible form of originality
can be the authentic forgery. I think that it s interesting to show
off a different dimension of the picture, an unseen attribute that
makes it differ from the everyday object and that is related to the
sacred character that exists in art. In my paintings I try to give an
air of things passed and to represent the memory, questioning its
possibility.
In the past I have dealed with the painting comment of the mass
culture such as cinema, television and magazines. In my older as
well as in my recent works, I work the dimension of the acceptance
of the work as form because I consider it as component part of the
work. So, not only the proper work is important, but also the
ambience and the directing value of the result.
Lately, I have made some series of works using the portuguese azulejo technique with wall tiles, as well as the painting-illusionistic reproduction of this technique.
