Dallas Smith

I have heeded the call of my homeland and returned to South Africa after having spent time in the English Riviera; seeking middle ground with my British ancestry.
Inspiration has been drawn from two European Artists, Albert Moore for his use of colour, attention to detail and balanced composition - I love the grace which comes across in his work - and Henry Matisse; I am fascinated by the simplicity and flat colours of his cut out range

I have peeled off the elaborate drapery on my own works, and substituted detail for untainted colours in more recent work, but my hope is that the essence of my paintings would reveal more and more a fusion of the mentioned painters in an attempt to attain the same grace and harmony shown in their works.

Cotton canvas, pigments and brushes are the tools used to reflect my zeal for inner balance! My life and my work are entwined .
