I was born in Monaghan, Ireland, where I grew up on my father's farm. I currently live in Bangor, County Down. I had been involved with working on farm machinery at home, which led to an interest in steel, and after art college I pursued this by making sculptural steel structures both for private and public art commissions. My influences are Cubism, particularly the work of Picasso. I notice that my drawings over the years have increasingly been characterized by a boldness and solidity that is consistent with an outcome in steel. Recently I have been very focused on the subject matter of the human face, or faces in interaction, articulated by a cubist aesthetic.
I attended Art College at University of Ulster in Belfast, gaining a BA Hons with distinction in Product Design, and an MA in Applied Art.
Around this time I received a number of awards and recognitions, including from the Belfast Telegraph and the Arts Council of Northern Ireland.
