David Segal Lakewood

David Segal is an abstract painter from Lakewood, CO. David has a paradoxical attraction to both rural and urban landscapes. Both places are characterized by sharp, significant lines. His quest is to find balance between the solitude of nature and the visual complexity of the modern city. Using a hard-edge painting technique, he depicts movement, mood, and memories in his abstract landscapes.

With a palette knife and brushes, he adds smooth layers of paint through control and precision to create hard, crisp edges. He manipulates the flat area by varying the size of lines and angles on the canvas.

Each painting connects him to who he is and what surrounds him. Abstract landscapes are depicted in these paintings. A vaguely familiar location is created through the opposition of strong, decisive marks. The anticipation of seeing and interpreting ordinary places in a fresh, new light is very exciting for him. 

David Segal Lakewood received his Bachelor's and Master's degrees in Fine Arts from Rocky Mountain College of Art and Design, summa cum laude, with several academic recognitions.
