I grew up in Chicago, Illinois but moved to Michigan in my twenties and have now lived in Michigan much longer than in Illinois and consider Michigan my home.
I find my most consistent inspiration in nature - in the world I walk through every day. I often record images for later use while traveling. Most days, I find intriguing subjects almost everywhere I look. I feel I will never be able to capture everything that I observe and want to express in paint. My work is intended to be representational, but balanced with an expressive element - demonstrating with each painting how the scene represented in the work made me feel when I observed it. My primary goal with my work is to elicit a reaction with my painting while representing a subject. I try to communicate to the viewer some of how I felt when I viewed the subject in the painting.
I work almost exclusively with oil paints and, on rare occasions, with acrylics. I paint on canvas, board and paper. I like the way oil paints can be manipulated in so many ways - giving almost infinite possibilities to the medium.
I have sold works to collectors in many parts of the US, Europe and Asia.
Although I took art classes as a non-major during college, I consider myself largely self-taught.
