My art I take seriously, my life I don't.

I'm primarily self-taught. I work in many mediums, but the mosaics are often the door by which people can access my works in 'safety.' I use the word safety in that many of these mosaics are - on the surface - lovely decorative items. Others reveal a deeper edginess. But in either case the visual impact of mosaic draws people in, fascinates them with its obvious technical requirements and necessarily slow, Zen-like approach to its creation. It makes viewers want to LOOK, to study and analyze, to fulfill their natural curious need to reach out and touch and feel the artwork - to experience it with at least two senses. I believe my use of this artform allows me to take this medium that is too often trashed by plate-breaking hobbyists and redefine and re-honor it.

I also bake a mean cake.
