Pangborn's art is often seen as harmony of contrasts. In this harmony, there is also tension, and the tension gives the work a dynamic nature that leaves it open to various and new interpretations. Pangborn's philosophy of creativity is reminiscent of the guidance written in the Tao Te Cheng:
"A good artist lets his intuition lead him wherever it wants...He is supple like a tree in the wind, he has no destination in view and makes use of anything life happens to bring his way. Nothing is impossible for him because he has let go."
