Doug Madill

Doug Madill is a painter currently living in Jersey City, New Jersey, USA. He was born near Chicago, Illinois in 1972. He began painting en plein air on the rooftops of Pratt Institute, capturing the atmospheric effects of the surrounding cityscape of Brooklyn and Manhattan. During his summers off at his home in Bainbridge (near Cleveland, Ohio) he continued studying the plein air technique painting in the rural environments he was familiar with.

Madill strives mainly for a sense of light and atmosphere in his plein air paintings, what he refers to as a 'breathability', convincing the viewer not only of illumination and air quality, but something captivating of the place he painted.

Oil on canvas, acrylic on panel, and gouache on watercolor paper are his current mediums of choice.

Doug Madill has painted in cities such as: Cleveland, Ohio; Jersey City, New Jersey; New York City; Ann Arbor, Michigan; Milan, Italy; Las Vegas, Nevada

His work is in private collections in the USA and Australia.
