Eirini Voulgari was born in a small, picturesque village in Greece which is located close to the ancient city-state of Elis. She finds joy, peace and inspiration in simple, everyday things. Nature is her greatest delight and she tries to depict her favourite vistas on paper or canvas whenever she has the time; she really adores plein air painting.
She started drawing and painting systematically in her thirties under the guidance of the late Greek painter and art critic Giorgos Fokas (1917-2008). It was thanks to his sincere interest in seeing every single work she created, to his constructive feedback and to his constant urging her to exhibit her works that her artistic endeavour took off. She is particularly indebted to him for urging her to pursue plein air painting and live painting by making her own compositions from real objects.
When roaming outside is out of the question, she resorts to studio painting. Simple, natural things, both animate and inanimate, open horizons, familiar, serene landscapes and seascapes, and of course her beloved persons, have always made her happy; and it is these that her paintings portray.
