Born in Hereford and brought up in a small village on the edge of The Forest of Dean, Elizabeth Rees Lewis trained at Hereford College of Art, Birmingham College of Art (Fashion and Textiles) and Bristol University and now lives in South Oxfordshire.
She is married to Bill, a chiropractor, and they have two adult children, Eleanore Rees Lewis, a women's wear shoe designer, based in Covent Garden, and Dan Rees Lewis, an academic, based at North Western University, Chicago.
Elizabeth worked in the UK and France as a freelance designer for both small and large companies, including The National Trust, Digital Equipment Corporation, Access France and Royle Greeting Cards.
She then started her own successful business, Real Design, as a designer and publisher of greeting cards. Her cards sold in the UK, America, Australia, Holland, France, Belgium, Ireland, Germany, The Falklands and The Channel Islands. Clients included John Lewis, Harrods, Medici, Purves, Athena, Fenwicks, Barnes and Noble and the Natural History Museum.
Then, after almost twenty years of trading, she decided it was time for a change of direction and began to paint...
I wish to acknowledge my debt to the following inspirational teachers:
Edward Gaze of Hereford College of Art, for teaching me to see.
Charles Hannam of Bristol University, for teaching me to think.
Mary Acton of WEA, for contextualising Art History for me.
Mr Bain, of John Kyrle School, Ross-on-Wye for opening my eyes to literature.
