Ema Pina

I have recently graduated in Fine Art from Central Saint Martins. My recent paintings explore a relationship between the presence of things and of the human being: objects such as dolls assume a human quality, and the human body is cropped and toyed with as if it were an object or simply suggested by its waste. I extensively engage in photographic and video experimentation in the development of each work in order to investigate composition, colour and tone. Decisions are made throughout the working process and embrace ‘accidents’ that inevitably occur. The paintings emerge from flesh-toned panels of MDF incrementally, narrowing down on a sense of tonal equilibrium and psychological depth.
