Evan Hwong was a freelance Documentary Photojournalist for major renowned stock photo-agencies around South East Asia. Photography to him is a journey, a way for him to express himself, a form of art he adored, and a compelling passion of showing the world what he sees through the lens. Evan has been clicking away professionally since 1997.
Evan chooses film as he finds it more magical to wait by the darkroom to see what he has immortalized rather than to depend on the delete button on a digital SLR. Although the choice of genre is heavily leaning towards the familiarizing of the strange, Evan finds that documenting a scene compelling enough for viewers to feel as though they are a part of the story is the ultimatum that drives him to do what he does best. On rare occasions will he chose to use a dSLR, and his primary gear will often range between the Canon EOS 1Ds MKii or the Sony Alpha A300 series.
Commission works thus far include Photojournalism, Commercials, and Portraits. Evan was based in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, and a frequent traveler to New York, London, Jakarta, Thailand, and Hong Kong for assignments. Evan is a former member of the Royal Photographic Society and the International Press Association.
