Freya Hite

A restlessness and questioning of life's meaning is the catalyst driving my painting career. Exploring ways a painting might impart beauty, complexity, transcendence, along with experimentation in oils, water media, clays, plaster...it sometimes seems endless-- though I'm feeling a synthesis of late.

Vacillating between abstraction and figuration, I'm realizing once more that figures and abstraction walk hand in hand.

My education has mainly been self-learning, though I do have the following: Studied at the Rocky Mountain School of Art (now the Rocky Mountain College of Art + Design) in 1979-1980.
Workshops, with Joellyn Duesberry, Teresa Vito, Don Sahli, Stephen Datz, Ralph Oberg & Matt Smith. Classes with Dan Loge, Vera Mulder, Gayle Gerson, Charles Hardy.

Influences are many, including Berthe Morisot, Pierre Bonnard, Gustav Klimt, Leonora Carrington, Oskar Kokoschka, Elisabeth Cummings, Mark Toby...and endless numbers of artists practicing today.
