Gyanmani Ray

Gyanmani Ray's name is well known to lovers of Nepali art, be they here or abroad. Anyone who kows Gyanmani's work can see how it reflects his deep love of art, culture and landscape of the Kathmandu Valley and rest of Nepal. After his father taught him at very early age how to paint, Gyanmani honed his skills while at school in Calcutta and later while abroad in France. He learned a lot more about the European style of painting, Gyanmani has now been living in Kathmandu for more than thirty years and he continues to wander the valley and all over Nepal in search of new places to paint.
A common thread of Gyanmani's work is his poignant depiction of the day to day lives of Nepali people and the magnificent landscape in which they live. He has done extensive research into the traditional waterspouts of Nepal and for many years has been painting and mapping these before they are lost and forgotten. He is dreaming of one day putting his research and paintings together in a book.
