Herman Mhire is an artist, educator, curator and arts administrator. As Founding Director of the Hilliard Art Museum he collaborated with the Eskew+Dumez+Ripple architectural firm of New Orleans and M. Goodwin Museum Planning of Los Angeles on the museum design which won numerous national and regional awards including the 2005 American Institute of Architects National Honor Award, and was published in Architectural Record and “U. S. Architecture” Braun Publishing, Berlin.
Herman Mhire received his Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from the University of Louisiana, Lafayette (1969) and his Master of Fine Arts degree from the University of Arkansas (1972). He joined the faculty of the Department of Visual Arts, University of Louisiana Lafayette, in 1977 where he taught courses in drawing, basic design, printmaking, art history, and arts administration until his retirement in 2005.
