Artists Statement
Art is the most loving place and able to accept every flaw I have.
Art always accommodates my feeling wholeheartedly.
Art never demands, or requests me to repay that which has been given to me.
Devotion grows so we may complete each other and I can merge as one with art.
My work is a record that I trust will be part of my life forever.
It is a learning place and a mirror so that my life is more meaningful.
My work is my pal who securely guides me through everyday.

Biodata
Imam Sucahyo is a self-taught artist who was born in Tuban, a small city that lies on the north coast of East Java, Indonesia. His interest in art began
at a very young age when he discovered an old book in his elementary school library. It was about Affandi, Indonesia’s old master painter who was known for his wild-expressionistic style, something that was quite uncommon back then. Affandi’s bold artistic approach has inspired Imam’s courage to explore art in his own way.
Passion turned to challenge for Imam and in his early 20s he had to confront life crisis’s, such as poverty, social rejection, and various family issues.
His wild artworks were deemed unfit for the conservative environment of Tuban. He avoided any form of interaction with people around him, thus
losing his ability to communicate verbally. He spent most of his time exploring the forests and deserted beaches near his home, accompanied by only a handful of artistic tools to calm his troubled mind. Since then, the role of art has become crucial to him, and without it Imam may have been lost in his self-imposed exile.
