Jenny Chernansky

There is a human and animal element that exists within all of us. A part of nature and yet outside of it simultaneously. I hope to explore and entertain new narratives by delving into the mythologies and transforming the imagery to shed new light on the archetypal feminine figure. My work explores the roles of women today and how contemporary issues are reflected through the lens of history, mythology, and religion. Drawing from symbolic, religious and mythological imagery, I trace anew an ontology of woman representation and inequality, by translating contemporary feminist ideas into installations where new media is often paired with photography and paintings made using traditional techniques.

Jenny has attended the New Orleans Academy of Fine Arts and has received her BA from Columbia College Chicago and MFA from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago.
