I’m Jess, an artist living and working in Portland, Oregon. My work is about the way that beautiful images can disrupt and change our habitual ways of thinking and looking — and ultimately change us. My work is very intuitive. It’s informed and inspired by color sensation, minimalism, and experiential “light and space” art movements. I work on each image until I feel everything click into place: that feeling of “rightness” tells me the work is done. I work in series — like chapters in a book or verses in a song. Each one feels like it’s part of a whole that’s always growing and surprising me.
My hope is that each piece serves as an invitation, a portal, a totem: a way of getting more deeply attuned to who you are and who you can become.
I create my work digitally on a touchscreen with my fingers. The digital techniques I've been developing for a few years are a hybrid of painting, screenprinting and collage. I then print the images using pigment ink on thick,100% cotton fine art paper. Each of my prints is an original work, not a reproduction. The completed prints are completely archival.
