Jissel Kerkstra

Jissel Kerkstra(1973) Lives and works in Arnhem, Netherlands.

What inspires me the most is man. The difference between the outside, the masks that faces can be, versus the world of feelings and thoughts. My work starts with separate image fragments, which i combine into a collage. For me a good way to make all those different layers in a person visible in one image. I search and combine until an image is created that touches me. After that making a painting or drawing, using the collage as reference, is a quest for a universal but at the same time personal story about the vulnerability of life and what it means to be human.
