JA’s art is emotive, each painting is an attempt to capture an object, moment or emotion rendered in the purest of abstract and minimal forms. His paintings are not visual records, they reflect a sense of place, rather than depicting the physical reality of a city or landscape. They seek to capture the geometry of nature and what it feels to be within it, to then reappear in the mind of the viewer as a mood or sensation, inviting self-reflection and contemplation.

JA’s practice concentrates on painting in oil on canvas, employing drawing as a tool to explore a wider variety of concepts. His work has a focus on layering different colours and mediums that creates a radiant and nebulous quality to his work. Viewed from a distance a clear sense of order is apparent but on closer inspection the paintings are alive with brushstroke and texture.
