José Luis Álvarez Escontrela

José Luis Álvarez Escontrela, a native of Caracas, Venezuela, the son of a Spanish immigrant and a descendant of migrants. After studying drawing formally in a school he decided to quit and forget his practice after his father passing. He's currently working on his Bachelor's dissertation to obtain a Literature BFA. At the same time, beginning his senior year at college, he decided to retake the practice of painting starting to use the precarious still available in Venezuela.

We tend to ignore what lies beneath the simplicity of things and, at the same time, we ignore what passes us by, the things that die as we move forward. My effort is to bring back those things, forgotten once, into a new life in front of our eyes.
This venture can be represented from a minimalistic approach to the colors of the afternoon to the utilization of used materials, like paper turned into ashes. Bringing back those things in front of a canvas or a piece of paper has a strong significance otherwise unable to show.

I have participated in a few art shows. I was part of the preselection for the 12 biennale award Sala Mendoza in Caracas. I was one of the finalist of the 7th and 8th International Digital Art Contest "Mayos in Pedro Muñoz" (Spain).
