Karen Boone

I am a natural pigment painter inspired by nature while backpacking. I responsibly forage for clay on or near my property in Southern Indiana. I sundry the clays and dirt, then crush and mix with walnut oil. I stretch my canvas using organic cotton canvas, and plant-based gesso. I love to go on thru-hikes in the wilderness, often for a couple of weeks with only what I can carry in my backpack. Even when in survival mode I try to sketch and take photos, so that back in the studio I can use as reference, but then I put them away, and just let my imagination and memory play with colors, textures.
