Karen Murphy

Karen was born in Newry, County Down, Northern Ireland. She lived in Edinburgh for much of the last 20 years and is now permanently resident in Belfast. She enjoyed attending Art classes at Edinburgh University and having taken private commissions of her work over the last 25 years, she has exhibited in group and solo exhibitions in local galleries.

Karen's paintings are very much inspired by light and colour. She loves occasions at dawn or late summer evenings when the sun is low in the sky, and colours in the landscape and horizons are incredibly exaggerated. Beautiful idyllic country cottage scenes with dramatic hills and fields of patchwork colour are a recurrent theme in her work. Countryside settings around Carlingford, County Down, Donegal and the Antrim Coast have been rich sources of inspiration.
