Karoline Kroiß

Quiet immersion in our own thoughts, a moment of deceleration in an increasingly fast-paced world - with my paintings I want to invite the viewers of my paintings to pause for a while and see that often the power lies in the silence and in the concentration on the little things in life. The gaze of my depicted figures is mostly turned away from the viewer. They are completely absorbed in themselves, are not distracted by anything - hence the monochrome background - can thus dive into another world where stillness is enjoyed. The delicate ribbons, soap bubbles, butterflies that surround my figures are thereby symbols of the preciousness of these moments.
My paintings are built up in many thin layers of acrylic paint. This creates an intense colorfulness and a linear painting style. The figures on my canvases are about life-size. The viewer can identify directly with the figure and enter the scene.

Karoline Kroiss studied at University of Arts in Berlin and made her masters in 2005.
