Kate Bender is an emerging Australian artist and graduate of The School of Art, Australian National University (2014). She is an oil painter whose painting is informed by sculptural abstract forms driven from her strong interest in colour, form, light and space. Emphasising the uncertainty between the imagined and real, Bender’s works take the viewer into another world creating intimate spaces that invoke a sensorial and immersive experience; a visualisation of a poetic turn of phrase, an evocation of emotion, mood, and music expressed in paint and colour.
.
Bender has exhibited in several solo shows in the Canberra region, X Gallery (2017, 2015) CCAS Manuka (2016), and selected joint/group shows M16 Artspace (2018, 2017), Form Gallery (2017), Australian National University (2017, 2015, 2014). Bender is a three-time finalist in the Contemporary Art Awards (2018, 2017, 2016) and finalist in the Bayside Art Prize (2018), St Kevin’s Art Show (2017) and Clifton’s Art Prize (2016) amongst others. Her work is held in a number of private collections in Australia, Hong Kong and the UK, and a public collection.
