La Rosa is an artist affected by themes relating to childhood and the experience of growing up in community with a strong connection with the environment. Originally from Narino, Colombia after graduate leave to study English and start working in New Zealand after seven years leave to Namibia for one year and from there to the UK. currently based in Brighton.
La Rosa’s work seeks to explore the connection amongst ourselves and with our relationship with the environment. This interest has been expressed through the investigation of the fragmentation of relationships at a societal and wider ambiental level. Projects have included ‘Product of Colombia’ solo exhibition which portrayed the disconnect between westerner consumers and coffee producers in Colombia through reused coffee sacks, and "Las Negritas" which critiqued the continued subservient portrayal of black women in Colombian popular culture. Racial segmentation has been later explored in an African context through the 2014 series called Submarine desert which represents desertscape post-apartheid social structures in Namibia.
