Leah Michelle

After finishing my Masters in Art History from the Courtauld Institute of Art, I created the New Artist Fair and Lemon Art as platforms to help emerging and established artists exhibit in Central London. As Curator and Artist, I believe in creating art that appeals to viewers and to my own sensibilities.

My art seeks to visualize the vast range of human emotions and focus on finding comfort in the abstract relationship between the sensual and the beautiful. In my first series, I manipulated images from magazines that exploited the sensual nature of women's bodies and combined them with acrylic paint and paper memorabilia from my daily life to visually express the confusion associated with finding status as a female in a gendered society. The abstract nature of these compositions seeks to connect female sensuality with the physicality of the materials used and allows viewers to interpret how women are perceived.

My 2011 series are all about simplification and beauty. I created 'Vortex of Love' with beauty in mind. By limiting my materials and colour palette, I was able to delve deeper into what makes a beautiful aesthetic visual experience.
