Leona Frank

I was born in New York and live in Riverdale, NY. I have worked for many years as a free-lance calligrapher for individuals, corporations and party planners. My paintings often reflect my interest in calligraphy, showing gestural brushstrokes and broad movement.

As an undergraduate of Queens College of The City University of N.Y., I received a strong foundational painting and drawing background, for which I am grateful each day. I had the honor of studying with Herb Aach, Robert Birmelin, Harold Bruder and John Ferren, all highly accomplished painters. I completed my Master of Science degree in Art Education at Southern CT State University, earning a 4.0 GPA, and I successfully taught art to children, grades 1-6 in an independent school for eight years. I continue to teach children and adults painting and drawing in my own studio, where I feel fortunate to have a large following.

My representational still life and flower paintings are executed in acrylics and depict my interest in color, design and movement. My paintings explore the relationships between two-dimensional patterns and three-dimensional forms. My style is painterly and expressive, and I have been described as "a painters’ painter."
