Maiko Shimada

Maiko Shimada was born and brought up in Japan. She was based in London and was studying for a BA (Hons) degree in Fine Art at Central Saint Martins College of Art and Design between 2009 and 2013. In her work, she is fundamentally interested in the relationship between her own artistic identity as an outsider and the frame of western artistic references within which she now works. The lack of connection allows her, as an outsider, to question the role and history of traditional western art. She currently lives and is based in Wakayama, Japan.
