Stephanie Douet

I make figurative paintings and sculptures inspired by historical styles such as Victorian Gothic, Chinoiserie and 19th century India, constructing life-size painted cutouts from wood. My work is inspired by Indian miniature painting, Pop art, Commedia dell'Arte and folklore art. The cutouts are arranged in various contexts - as paintings on walls, in clusters, like stage sets.

I was short-listed for the Contemporary British Painting Prize last year, and am currently working with Arts Council funding, the 'Develop Your Creative Practise' with mentors Sacha Craddock and Manick Govinda.
