Marianne Karlsen

Marianne Karlsen is an artist that lives and works in Holmestrand, a beautiful little city by the sea, an hour outside Oslo, Norway.
A key element in her work is the light, often working with dramatic lighting that provides great contrasts.
Growing up on the west coast of Norway surrounded by high mountains and deep fjords, she finds much inspiration in nature,- and of her ancestors’ simple way of living as farmers and fishermen. That less is enough. Values that she wishes to pass on to everyone buying an artwork from her.
Despite the fact that she tends to like the good object, the light that sets the mood and opens up an inner space - Marianne likes to experiment with techniques, and find new tools, new surfaces to paint on, and combine several techniques to see what mood the combinations themselves create.
Most often she works with a limited color palette,- black/white with a touch of warmer tones and she loves the simple, classic and clean.
