"Jacques Marchal is a self-taught artist. Yet his work as a collage artist, which he commenced in 2004, bears the hallmark of sound artistic roots inspired by the photography of the Surrealists, members of a literary, cultural and artistic movement in the first half of the 20th century.

Like many Belgian artists, Marjac (as he is known in the art world) is a successor to this movement and enjoys impressive technical control.

From 2004 he applied himself to the difficult area of composition before going on to explore a highly personal poetic universe of images that he cuts up and recomposes by hand.

No digital manipulation methods are used in his work. The fruits of his labours are entirely the product of his own talents.

Since that period, his efforts have focused primarily on an unusual world: a world of paper where doors open into an imaginary world that never loses the feel of reality.

Collages à penser, collages à rêver, collages à sourire ...
Jacques Marchal est un artiste autodidacte, et pourtant son travail de collagiste qui débute en 2004, est empreint de bonnes racines artistiques inspirées par la photographie surréaliste, un mouvement surtout littéraire, culturel et artistique de la première moitié du 20 siècle.
Héritier de ce mouvement, comme bon nombre d’artistes belges, Marjac, (c’est son nom d’artiste) possède une maîtrise technique impressionnante.
Depuis 2004, il s'est astreint aux gammes difficiles de la composition avant d'explorer un univers poétique très personnel, constitué d'images découpées et recomposées à la main.
Il n’utilise pas de techniques de manipulations digitales pour produire ses œuvres. C’est à son seul talent qu’il doit le fruit de son travail.
Depuis cette époque, ses recherches s’articulent principalement autour d’un monde singulier, un monde de papier, composé de portes ouvertes sur un imaginaire qui ne perd jamais le goût du réel.
Pour lui comme pour les surréalistes, seule la sensibilité poétique face au réel peut transformer le monde. C’est peut-être pour cela qu’il utilise des environnements sombres pour exprimer des sentiments assez intimes, toujours intériorisé...
