Matthijs van Zessen lives and works in Rotterdam, The Netherlands. He graduated from the Willem the Kooning Acadamy in 2006.
About his work:
Since 2011 Matthijs van Zessen makes architectural drawings in which he investigates space. Eventhough his drawings are constructed with only straight lines, they radiate warmth and intimicy.
'By building up my drawings line-by-line, drawing each line, I create a personal focus in my drawings that provides the viewer to find stillness. I'm interested in the process that happens when you stop assuming what you see and you really start seeing. In my drawings I investigate space, the perception of space and perception itself. I believe that to be aware that you see things and to be aware when you see things is a skill that we are losing in todays world in which we are constantly bombarded with images.'
