Melinda Rus

I’m a Bucharest based analog collage artist, interested in assembling different forms and creating a new context/whole. My passion for handmade paper collages started when I read the autobiography of the surrealist artist, Eileen Agar, “A Look at My Life” and came across one of her great works, “The Angel of Anarchy”. That was the beginning of a beautiful friendship between myself and collages. I use newspapers, photographs or other pre-made images and then overlay different textures and materials by dissecting shapes in a radically new way. In terms of subjects of my works, I’m interested in the human body and the different shapes that it has and can take as well as in various architectural shapes and textures. My works reveal my most intimate and emotional moments and I like to utilize collage as a space to experimenting with photos, images, allowing the unconscious to reveal itself.
