Marie-Béatrice Micouleau

My paintings explore the passage from evanescence to the material. I paint the immaterial process of thought and its slide towards the concretization of our choices.

Thanks to my university education, philosophical questioning is at the centre of my creation. Thus all the freedom of the immaterial is concretized in forms, movements, transparencies and depths by overlaying colours.

Technically, the use of thick areas of impasto next to more transparent areas draws attention to the layered nature of the painting: each executed movement covers a part of the artwork. While impasto hides or compresses, the use of liquid areas of transparency reveals the traces of choice or renunciation, of the path of our thoughts.

The use of bright colours and the contrast of active movements compared to sparse spaces create rhythmical and entropical compositions, such as one might imagine a flow of thoughts revealed in its essence.
