Maria-Victoria Checa

My journey as a self-taught abstract and impressionist painter started in May 2018 for practical reasons. Throughout my life I had been mesmerized by the colors and composition of painters like Gerhard Richter, Kandinsky, Miro and Monet. I tried to paint some large paintings to stage my house for rent and realized I loved the process of expressing my inner emotions through colors and shapes on the canvas. Thrilled with the process, I created more paintings, some better than others, learnt about color theory, composition, tried, failed and tried again to improve techniques. With no formal training but a firm commitment to my sense of esthetic and intuition, I have since become a professional painter and have sold my artwork throughout the United States, Canada, Asia and Europe.
Some highlights in my professional career as an artist include the following:
• I was commissioned for a large water lily painting, Fairy’s Cove II, for one of the salons of the Chicago Waldorf Astoria.
• Four of my paintings are being used to create colorful and original apparel for the worldwide-known retailer SHEIN. The fashionable clothes were part of the SHEIN Summer 2024 collection.
