Nemanja Milenković

In artistic practice, I am interested in exploring various relationships between human and non-human animals in contemporary society. My research field lies between two boundaries: the radical exploitation of non-human animals in modern industries on one side, and the radical protection of non-human animals on the other. As my primary sources of information, I utilize personal and collective experiences that can be traumatic or life-altering in some way, as well as contemporary philosophy and science in the discourse of bioethics.

Coming from a family in southern Serbia, I have witnessed various scenes of animal farming and hunting since early childhood. However, as I grew older, I decided to articulate my lifestyle habits towards reducing the suffering of my fellow beings. I do not shy away from acknowledging the nearly 100% genetic similarity I share with chimpanzees, as well as with ordinary earthworms.

The media through which I express myself include drawing, painting, installation, readymade, and performance, which I use to construct multimedia installations aimed at prompting viewers to reconsider their personal perspectives on the topics presented.
